Saalbach Hinterglemm, the hiking paradise

Perfect for your active summer in the mountains

Saalbach has so much to offer when it comes to hiking, with over 400 kilometres of hiking trails that are as varied as the region itself.

Romantic forest paths, mountain ridges with panoramic views, craggy and rocky mountain ascents and ice-cold mountain lakes to cool off in on hot summer days – the home of the laid back really does have everything to satisfy a hiker’s needs. And because the joy of having reached the summit obviously deserves a reward, 40 summer mountain restaurants are on hand to ply you with Kaiserschmarren (shredded pancakes), Pinzgauer Kasnocken (Austrian pasta with cheese and caramelised onions), Jausenbretter (sharing platters) and many other regional specialities that only Austria can offer.

A few of our favourite hikes in Saalbach Hinterglemm and surrounding

A leisurely hike for young and old with a beautiful mountain panorama.

Ascent with the Kohlmaisbahn to the top station. After the descent over the saddle to the Saalachtaler Höhenweg continue in a westerly direction to the Spielbergtörl. Along the slopes of the Spielberghorn, the path leads to the summit of the Kleberkopf. Descent via the forest road and the Spielberghaus back to the village square Saalbach

Beautiful day tour with wonderful huts to stop at.

Ascent with the Reiterkogel cable car. From the mountain station you reach the summit Reiterkogel with a good hour climb via route 5. Past the so-called “Wetterkreuz” you hike over the Reiteralm, the Sonnalm and the Unterreitweg downhill to the Glemmtaler Landesstraße. From there you can walk along the Promenade 3 back to the Reiterkogelbahn (walking time approx. 20 minutes) and there is also a post bus connection back.

A day trip to the head of the valley. Whether hiking, climbing or just enjoying the day – there is something for everyone!

This panoramic circular trail leads us from Lengau to the farmed alpine pastures at the end of the valley. On the way we have a wonderful view into the valley and also to the surrounding mountains like Staffkogel, Tristkogel, Gamshag, Schusterkogel and at the end of the valley you can see the Hochkönig.

Sonnegg Tip:

At the Lindlingalm is the high ropes course, Tree top trail, Schnitzers woodpark, devils water (Kneipp facility).

A mountain hike where you should be surefooted in any case. However, at the summit you will be rewarded with a fantastic view.

Ascent with the Kohlmaisbahn to the top station. Along the Saalachtaler Höhenweg to the Spielbergtörl and over the very steep climb to the summit. Descent via the Wirtsalm and the Maisalm back to Saalbach.

A demanding summit tour for experienced hikers.

From the Lindlingalm via the well-marked trail past the Ossmannalm to the Saaljoch. The direct ascent to the summit is reserved for sure-footed and giddy mountain hikers.

After crossing the summit, descend to the gate and continue via the Pfandebenalm to the Lindlingalm.

Great summit hike with fantastic views. The walking time is a bit long, about 5 hours, but the climb is not very demanding.

From the Lindlingalm via the well-marked path past the Forsthofalm. After some time the path crosses. There you have the possibility to choose between the two peaks, Sonnspitze and Staffkogel. In our case, we turn right and choose the direct ascent to the Sonnspitze.

After crossing the summit, descend back to the Lindlingalm.
